This wonderful poem was written by Sam Levenson and commonly quoted by Audrey Hepburn when asked to share her ‘beauty tips.’

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.

Wise words spoken by a beautiful and wise woman.

However, if you’re looking for beauty tips that focus on skin, healthy, wellbeing etc, then I suggest you pop over to Michelle’s blog, Tonic Gifts.  Michelle holds a Bits of Beauty Carnival every couple of weeks.  This carnival she tells you how to create your own Milk Bath and provides a link to other DIY pampering and beauty recipes.

Enjoy!

empowering women

Welcome to Issue 10 of Empowering Women and I’m so blessed to have reached double figures.  Thank you for all the submissions each month.

So this issue I’m asking the question… how can we become empowered?

1. Have a balanced lifestyle - Alex over at The Next 45 Years presents an article about how important it is to keep your balance.  I know that I constantly struggle with this and it is something that doesn’t come naturally for most.

2. Be happy - Nneka over at Balanced Life Center outlines the 7 keys to happiness.  Some people say that happiness is a mindset and others feel it’s more.  Personally the 7 points outlined are a step in the right direction.

3. Listen to your needs - Carole over at The Healthy Living Lounge suggests that you take time out to marinate your life and what she means is to really take time to listen to your needs; your soul’s needs.

4. Get your finances organised - Susan from The Secret to Life presents 21 success secrets of self-made millionaires.  The list is great and if you feel you’ve got your finances organise, it still wouldn’t hurt to read through this list because you could find 1 useful tip.

5. Nurturing friendships - Beverly from Embrace Your Gifts happily points out that women need women and I tend to agree with her.  Girl Power is pretty amazing and when those girls are nurturing, encouraging and speaking their truth, the friendship will be inspiring and empowering.

Tell others about this Empowering Women Carnival… pass on the love, the knowledge and the wisdom and help anothers become empowered.   Have a great week!

Thank you to everyone that submitted articles. I would appreciate author’s linking back to this carnival.

You are invited to submit your blog article to the next edition using our carnival form.

I received this from The Universe…

You see, Nicole, there is a choice for all who aspire to live in abundance, that only the wisest ever perceive.

You can visualize a life in which you possess fabulous wealth.

Or…

You can visualize a life in which you are creatively fulfilled, with fantastic work, dancing in the marketplace… and you possess fabulous wealth.

Do you see the oh-so-subtle difference?

I see you as the dancing sort,
The Universe

As you know, October is the month for Breast Cancer Awareness and there are so many functions and activities that you can attend or do to show your support.

Your support can be shown in the way of buying a pink ribbon or if you’re in Australia you could hold a Pink Ribbon Breakfast, alternatively if you’re in Hong Kong you could Dress Pink for the Day on the 26th October.  If you’re in the UK, you could get “In the Pink” and in the US, you can display the “Power of the Pink“.

If you cannot get out and about to participate, you can still show your support online.  One of my most favourite support site is the Mount Franklin Well of Positivity.

Mount Franklin will donate $1.00 for every positive thought written in their well.  This is great for those that cannot afford to donate or are limited in activities in their area.  Mount Franklin are aiming for $250,000 and at this stage they are close to $205,000.

Don’t be shy…

  • Add you positive note to the well of positivity.
  • And, don’t forget to examine your breasts (if you’re a woman) on a regular basis.

Blessings to You!

It is so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day living that we forget to pamper ourselves.  Pampering ourselves doesn’t mean going out and spending a fortune at the beauticians or a fancy spa.  You can pamper yourself in the comfort of your own home and using what you’ve already got stashed away in your cupboards.

With my realisation earlier in the week, I decided to soak in the tub while I took some “still” time.  I pulled out my bath salts, lit some candles and slipped into the bath.  When I noticed a thought, I did not encourage it or deny it.  I let it float by like a cloud.

Some home pampering ideas are:-

A Delicious Foot Soak

What you need

• A large bowl, big enough to soak your feet;
• 1/2 a cup of Epsom Salts;
• 2 to 3 drops of essential oil (see below)
• a bag of marbles or stones
• a magazine, book or video/DVD.

What you do

• Set up the VCR/DVD player or have your reading material close by;
• Fill your bowl up with warm water so it covers your ankles;
• Place the marbles or stones in the bowl;
• Mix in your Epsom Salts and Essential Oil;
• Now sit back, put your feet in the tub and use the marbles or stones as a massager, rolling your feet over the top. Enjoy!

Which oils to use

• Lavender • Sandlewood • Ylang Ylang • Rosewood • Frankinsence

Or you could try one of Anne’s “Beat the Winter Blues” Bath Blend Recipes over at My Day Off.

Alternatively, you could search the web for recipes and spoil yourself with your home-made pampering products.  Search for face masks, hand creams, body lotions and hair conditioners.

Don’t delay… set yourself some time this week to relax and pamper yourself.  Enjoy!

I had a realisation today that I need more “still” time and some people who are currently in my life have come into my life to help me with this.  The penny dropped when I read about Zen Teacup.

In Zen Buddhism, there is a famous story about a businessman and a Zen master.  The businessman desires to become enlightened, so he visits the Zen master.  The Zen master offers the businessman tea.  He pours the tea into the cup and then keeps pouring until the tea is splashing on the floor.

The businessman becomes distraught and yells, “What are you doing?!”

The Zen master calmly replies, “This cup is like your mind: It is too full.  It must be emptied first before you can attain enlightenment.”

What I realised is that my life is full with things… I’m always doing something as my husband says.  I use to be so good at taking some “still” time but since starting my own business, I’ve eventually become busier doing “stuff” and “things”.

When I use the term “still” time I’m meaning sitting still and just breathing, not reading or watching tv or chatting on the phone.  Just taking the time to stop, be still and let my mind empty.  Yes… letting your mind empty is difficult but when I do it I hear my intuition a lot more clearly and I find the answers within because they just come.

I hope you get some “still” time throughout this week.

I love oggling over the jewellery by Annette of Annette Piper Handcrafted Jewellery.  Annette has a Diploma in Gemology and makes the most gorgeous jewellery.  My eyes actually lit up when I saw some stunning pieces of Sunstone in her post Sunstone and Spring Show.

The Sunstone is a joyful, light-inspiring stone that heightens intuition.  This yellow, orange, red-brown stone helps to clear all the chakras however it can be a little difficult to find, you are most likely to find it in specialty shops.  I know this because I was on a mission to find some in Hong Kong and was not able to get it, however a friend of mine did find some stones and made a pair of lovely earrings for me.

Sunstone is extremely useful for removing “hooks” from other people - these can be at the mental or emotional level.  It can also help lift your spirit, cut the ties, help you say no and remove co-dependency.

It facilitates self-empowerment, independence, and vitality. If procrastination is holding you back, Sunstone will overcome it.

The Sunny stone can be found in Canada, Norway, Greece, India and the United States.

To benefit from it’s healing powers, you can place it on your body, wear it or hold it.   Sunstone is particularly beneficial when used in the sun.

If you consider how you feel on a beautiful sunny day compared to a cold, damp grey day, you will understand how the sunny Sunstone will make you feel.  It helps lift dark moods and acts as an antidepressant.  It can also help treat sore throats and relieve stomach ulcers.

If you spot this sunny stone, do not miss the chance to add it to your collection.

These past 2 weeks have been busy trying to put our Journal for the Modern Goddess to bed and today we have done it!

This gorgeous girl is now at the printers being primped and preened, in time for a November launch.

The purpose of our Journal for the Modern Goddess is for women to uncover the beautiful, unique and powerful Goddess that they really are. We encourage you to focus on aspects of your own life path – the inspiration and happiness you feel, the strength and wisdom you find in times of change and the dreams and visions for your own future.

Each section offers questions for you to explore as well as affirmations for moving forward.

Our companion guided meditation CD provides you with sacred journeys that will inspire and encourage you to create positive life patterns. This will help you to recognise and invite magic, inspiration and loving energy into your life.

You will be able to purchase your own copy at www.journalsforempowerment.com and you can read more about our next journal.

I now have to wait until the end of this month to see her fully blossom and in her most glamorous frock.  In the meantime I am organising a Virtual Book Tour, so if you’re interested in being a host, please do not hesitate to contact me at nicole at moderngoddessonline . com or leave me a comment on this post.

Blessings to you!
