According to the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT), Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade.  It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trade conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalised producers and workers.

There are 10 key principles of Fair Trade:-

  • Creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers
  • Transparency and accountability
  • Capacity building
  • Promoting Fair Trade
  • Payment of a fair price
  • Gender equality
  • Working conditions
  • Child labour
  • The environment
  • Trade relations

Tomorrow is World Fair Trade Day and it calls on all of us to celebrate Fair Trade.  To celebrate you can do the following:-

  • Support your local Fair Trade Organisations by volunteering to help with their work, make a donation or attend organised events.
  • Buy Fair Trade products when you can and keep an eye out for products in your local supermarkets or better still ask them to consider stocking Fair Trade items.
  • Browse an online Fair Trade Shop for gifts.
  • Attend a World Fair Trade Day event if one is held in your area.
  • Make a donation to IFAT.

My goal in the next 12 months is to have Modern Goddess Gifts offering a range of Fair Trade products from all around the world.

Get involved!

On my side of the world we’re now in Spring and to celebrate the Spring time, Melba over at justBeConnected organised her second Spring Random Re-Gift Swap.

The idea of the swap is to grab a container of some type and walk around your home filling it up with goodies that you think your recipient would like.  Goodies can be something you’ve made, something someone gave to you but it doesn’t fit in your life, craft things from your craft box, books from your book shelf… anything that you would like to re-gift.  The main thing is you do not buy anything for the swap.

Melba partners each participant up with someone else and they are your swap partner.  I was partnered up with Melba and I knew she loved pink so she got a few pink things, including a cloth shoulder bag, pink dangly earrings, pink wool and lots of other goodies.

My gift from Melba was gorgeous!  My red bag is hanging on my door with some of the goodies still inside.  The chocolates she sent didn’t last very long.  I loved Melba’s postcards and have used them to ‘connect’ with some friends back home, and the striped journal is being put to good use.    The box with the wire flower has lots of chunky beads as I like beading, and the wire heart that is sitting on the postcards is now wrapped around my office door handle.

Here is a picture of my goodies.   Thank you so much Melba!!

After browsing through The Tall Poppy I had to share with you this clip Anne so aptly named “A Bad Day at the Office“.  It really could be any one of us, whether at work in an office away from home or a home office.  I would be the one that head butts the filing cabinet.

Enjoy!

As each day goes by, I become clearer and clearer in the direction I want to take my business - The Modern Goddess (Online).   I’ve known all along that I’ve wanted to offer personal development services online, but the how has been the challenge for me.  Since completing my certification as a Soul Coach in October/November last year, and facilitating three soul coaching programs, I feel more confident that offering a range of coaching packages is the right direction.

The Modern Goddess (Online) is evolving and developing out of my passion to help women live their best life.  With this clearer focus, you will start to see my blog change focus as well.  I will still be promoting great causes, offering up inspirational stories and promoting the blog carnival, Empowering Women.  The difference is that you will start seeing posts related to women in business, managing your finances, developing your career along with spiritual issues, making a difference in this world and putting your best foot forward.

What I will be offering through my site and my blog are tools and resources that empower you to make your own choices in the way you live your life.

To all my readers, “Thank You” for your continued support in my blogging journey so far.  I hope you will stick around and watch The Modern Goddess (Online) blossom just as beautifully as the flowers in the image.

Wishing you a magical day!

As mentioned in my previous post, I’m reading ‘A New Earth’ by Eckhart Tolle.  I’m finding the book very inspiring and it really gets me thinking.  I love that Eckhart Tolle said that instead of asking ourselves “what do we want to do in life?” we should ask ourselves, “what does life want me to do?”.

The book has me pondering my place in the world and how I am living it.

Today while visiting Working Solo, I came across her post called Friday Inspiration.  It definitely was inspirational!  Leah highly recommended that her readers take 18 minutes out of their day and have a watch a presentation by Jill Bolte Taylor, a Harvard-trained Brain Scientist.

I did as Leah suggested and wow… I was really touched.  Now I’m highly recommending you take the time to watch the presentation aptly named, My Stroke of Insight.  It is pretty amazing!

Most people probably know about the 10 week webinar that Oprah and Eckhart Tolle are conducting about Eckhart’s book, ‘A New Earth’.

The organisers of the webinar thought it would be a great idea to involve the community and have asked a number of people to lead discussion groups.  I was very honoured to be asked and if you are looking for an online discussion group, please check out, A New Earth Discussion Forum.

The online discussion forum will be discussing each chapter based on Oprah’s program (outlined below). It does not matter if you do not start the same week as Oprah’s webinar or read a chapter per week. The benefit of the discussion forum is that you can join in whenever you can.

The schedule is:-
Monday, March 3rd – The Flowering of Human Consciousness
Monday, March 10th – Ego: The Current State of Humanity
Monday, March 17th – The Core of Ego
Monday, March 24th – Role Playing: The Many Faces of the Ego
Monday, March 31st – The Pain-Body
Monday, April 7th – Breaking Free
Monday, April 14th – Finding Who You Truly Are
Monday, April 21 – The Discovery of Inner Space
Monday, April 28th – Your Inner Purpose
Monday, May 5th – A New Earth

If you are not from the USA, living on Chicago time, please visit www.oprah.com to find out when the program will be shown.  For those in Hong Kong the time for us is on Tuesday at 10am and those in Sydney, it is at 12am or 1pm based on whether you’ve changed over for Daylight Savings.

Feel free to join in. We look forward to seeing you!
