As part of the Soul Coaching program we work with affirmations on a daily basis.  I thought for those new to working with affirmations, it might be good to have a little bit of a background on what they are and how to work with them.

An affirmation is a statement we make about a person, thing or situation. It is something that we “state” to ourselves or to others on a regular basis. Affirmations are created based on our beliefs and can be positive or negative in nature.

Whether the statement is positive or negative you are affirming that belief on a regular basis and eventually you will believe it and act according to that belief.

The amazing thing about affirmations is that those negative statements can be turned into positive, powerful statements, which in turn can be used daily to bring more light, love and happiness into your life.

Positive thinking is essential for your personal growth.

By working with positive, powerful affirmations you can begin to change the way you think and feel about yourself, and start to create a future that you desire. You do this by identifying the negative and unproductive beliefs you have, and turning them into positive, supporting beliefs.

We suggest that you create affirmations that are in tune with your current situation but that can still effect change in the areas that they hope for.

Before you begin to create your positive, powerful affirmations, it is important to remember a few key points:

Present Moment – Your affirmation must be written in the present moment. For example, “I am financially supported” represents the now, whereas, “I will be financially supported” makes you feel like it is off in the future, not in the now.

Positive Words – Chose your words carefully because if you said “I am not poor” your energy is focusing on not being poor, and the universe hears the word “poor”. Instead change your words to be positive and uplifting “I have enough money for all that I need” or “I am wealthy” are better choices of words.

Short and Specific – While creating your affirmation, you want to chose words that are to the point and allows you to keep your affirmation short. The more succinct your affirmation, the easier it is to remember and the easier to work with.

Feels Right – When creating your affirmation, you want it to “feel” right and be in tune with your current situation. For example, if you are completely broke and there are bills attacking you from all sides, it is not going to help just saying “money now pours into my life offering me great abundance” as this is clearly not the case and trying to repeat such an affirmation would just create an undercurrent of disappointment with your current circumstances. Instead you could use an ‘umbrella affirmation’ such as “the universe now supports me in my endeavours to manifest great wealth”. Create something that you feel is right for you but is also a little bit of a stretch.

Repeat, Repeat and Repeat – Once you have created your positive, powerful affirmation say it to yourself as often as you can, write it down as often as you can and think it as often as you can throughout your day. The best way is to write it down and place it where you can see it often. They say it takes 21 days to break a habit, use this rule with an affirmation and repeat it often throughout the day for 21 days.

Visualise – As you repeat your affirmation, visualise yourself being in the situation. Really feel yourself there, having achieved whatever it is that you wished for. Visualisation helps you with the feeling and belief of your affirmation.

Update – As you work with your positive, powerful affirmations your energy will change and you will begin to feel better and better. Update your affirmations with your feelings and take into consideration that you want affirmations to be a little bit of a stretch for you.

It is better to create your own affirmation that is applicable to your own situation however if you choose an affirmation from a book or the internet, change it to fit your situation. If you are using an affirmation daily and it is not manifesting, think about why and maybe you need to create an ‘umbrella affirmation’ that will help support you in achieving your affirmation when the time is right. You need to honour where you and why before you can move forward.

Affirmations are truly the key to getting yourself in line with what you want, need and desire in life.  Keep an eye out for our beautiful affirmation videos in the coming weeks.

If you already work with affirmations, what is your favourite one?

whistle1.jpgDuring my 15 year career in the training and development field in Australia, I have implemented a number of executive style coaching programs as well as new employee coaching progams.  And more recently since becoming a certified Soul Coach, I have been asked the questions “what is coaching” and “why would it be beneficial?”

Firstly, I always get people to think about coaches in the sporting arena because most people can relate to this type of coaching.  Then I say that professional and personal coaching is very similar but rather than focusing on a sport, you are generally focusing on an area or areas that you would like to improve and/or develop.

Coaches actually guide you, ask questions, probe but do not act as they know all the answers or they are right in the way they do things. Coaches work with their clients to help them to find the answers themselves, because you know what is best for you.

They are not about pointing out your failures but more working with you to achieve things you want to achieve. The whole idea of coaching is for it to be in a non-judgmental, supportive environment.

So why would it be beneficial to work with a coach?

Coaches can help you move forward because they are not emotionally involved in your situation and can look at the sitauation from so many different angles.  Coaches ask you questions that help you examine the way you do things, what you say and how you do things.  Coaches can look at your whole situation and help you break it down into smaller steps so that you can see progress rather than being stuck looking at the bigger picture.  Coaches can offer you other perspectives that you may never have thought of, and they can teach you how you can become empowered to move yourself forward.

The traditional type of coaching is generally face-to-face, and one-on-one, however these days, coaching is offered over the telephone, in face-to-face groups, online, via email or eGroups such as Google Groups.

One of my goals this year is to develop The Modern Goddess Online, so that we (a team of coaches) are providing women with cost effective, time effective coaching services via the internet.  I am still working through the exact business model which may include email, live chat and/or phone chats using conference calling techniques.

If you have used a coach for personal or business I would love to hear about it… Tell us how you benefited from the coaching sessions and how your coaching sessions we conducted.

I look forward to hearing all about it!

Today I spent some time reflecting on the amazing year I’ve had and started thinking about all the things I’ll be doing next year.  Whilst reflecting I received a wonderful email from a Soul Sister (another Soul Coach).

Sophia of Soul Wings told us (the Soul Coaching group) about a practice she started doing many years ago… it is an activity where she writes down 100 wishes for the coming year.  She does say that it must be completed by midnight on New Year’s Eve (if at all possible).

Here is what she suggests we do…

  1. In a notebook, write down all the numbers from 1 to 100 in a column on the left-hand margin.
  2. Start writing from 1, everything that you would like to manifest in your year ahead.  Once you’ve run out of things to wish for, just for yourself, widen your circle to include prayers and wishes to your family, your community, your country, the environment, and eventually the entire planet.

Sophia explains that it’s truly an amazing activity in getting to know the REAL you – a compassionate, caring soul, who has so much to offer to the world! (What we wish for ourselves is what we wish for others, and what we wish for others is really what we wish for ourselves.)

Her advice is to get started as soon as possible. It usually takes me a couple of sessions over a day or two to finish the entire list.

It’s fun to find these lists at the end of each year and see how much you have manifested!

Thus it becomes a wonderful exercise in gratitude as well.

Happy Wishing!

19th December 2007

It is 4 days until Christmas and 11 days until we move into 2008.  I’ve been getting myself organised - this means decluttering, scheduling and planning.

One of the biggest things for me is to confirm my schedule for next year… I have now published my face-to-face Soul Coaching schedule as well as my online Soul Coaching schedule.  The reason for this being the biggest thing is because I’ve not committed to a year long program previously.  Sure I commit to the YWCA training every quarter but this is now about my commitment to my business and promoting it.

Sometimes fear stops me in the tracks and I hear myself asking the questions “what if no one books into the program?”, “what if I’m not a success?”, “what if… what if and what if?” but I realised that I need to step past my fears and just jump in feet first.  Setting my schedule, is the first step forward, marketing myself is the next step forward.

The third step forward is to declutter… and it’s more my office and paperwork than the rest of the home.  I keep everything!  I’ve got old Uni assignments, previous projects, all receipts dating back many years etc. and it’s “just in case I need them” but truthfully, I’ve probably not touched most of the stuff since moving to Hong Kong.

I also am not the best administrator… I can do it for others but for me, it’s just not my priority.  While reading Donna-Marie’s post, time to get organise over at Small Business Diva, I realised that there are other people out there just like me.  Donna-Marie offers some great tips for reorganising your home office.  I think I’ll get all my paperwork and organise it into her suggested piles however to act on some things I may need longer than a couple of hours.

It looks like I’ll be spending the weekend going through paperwork… but, if I can tackle the decluttering within 11 days, I’ll be set to move forward in 2008.

What are you doing to move forward into 2008?

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I became a qualified Soul Coach recently.  Soul Coaching can be conducted a couple of different ways but one of the more popular ways is through the 28-day program.

The 28-day program covers four elements - air, water, fire and earth and applies these elements into your everyday life through decluttering of your environment and your mind, looking at your emotions and patterns in life and refocusing on the positives in life, rather than the negatives.

The program has 3 levels - committed to change; going for it and playing full out.  Each day you can choose the level that you will work at based on the time you have.  It doesn’t really matter what level you do because once you commit to the program, you find that things start to shift within and around you.

It truly is an amazing program and I will be offering it online as well as face to face.

To get you thinking more about the positives, check out Jacqui’s post over at Rainbow Designs.  Jacqui has listed 10 ways to create a positive day.  Some of these principles are discussed in the 28-day program.  We work with affirmations daily, we set intentions and you are encouraged to be kind to yourself.

If you would like to know more, please feel free to email me at nicole @ moderngoddessonline.com

Have a great day!
